C1 ~ C2  C2 : Temple, forehead, occiput Neck flexion and extension
C3 Entire neck Neck lateral flexion 
C4 Shoulder area, clavicular area, upper scapular area Shoulder elevation
C5 deltoid area, anterior aspect of entire arm Shoulder abduction
C6 lateral side of arm, radial side of hand to 1st, 2nd fingers Elbow flexion and wrist extension
C7 palmar side of the middle finger Elbow extension and wrist flexion
C8 Medial side of the forearm and 4th, 5th fingers Thumb extension and wrist ulnar deviation 
T1 Medial side of the arm Finger abduction and adduction
  • Muscle Strength Grading
    • 5 : subject holds position against gravity and maximal resistance
    • 4 : subject holds position against gravity and less than maximal resistance
    • 3 :  subject holds position against gravity with no resistance
    • 2 : subject moves with small motion with some gravity
    • 1 : contraction is slightly made with no joint motion
    • 0 : no contraction is palpable

  • Deep Tendon Reflex

                   A. DTR Biceps(C5-C6)

                  B. DTR Brachioradialis(C6-C7)

                  C. DTR Triceps(C7-C8)

 

DTR resulting

  • 0 = no response; always abnormal
  • 1+ = a slight but definitely present response; may or may not be normal
  • 2+ = a brisk response; normal
  • 3+ = a very brisk response; may or may not be normal
  • 4+ = a tap elicits a repeating reflex (clonus); always abnormal
