- Impingement of shoulder
- When you raise your arm to shoulder height, the space between the acromion and rotator cuff narrows. The acromion can rub against (or impinge on) the tendon and the bursa, causing irritation and pain.
- Three progressive stages of impingement
- Stage 1 : Edema and hemorrhage of the subacromial bursa
- Stage 2 : tendinitis and fibrosis. Stage 1, 2 are reversible with conservative care(rest, stretching, strengthening)
- Stage 3 : incomplete tears or complete tendinous rupture. Surgery indicated
- Special Test
- Massage Treatments
- Acute
- Ice pack
- MLD for removing edema : beginning
- Massage on compensating structures
- Golgi tendon organ release on the unaffected tendon of the affected muscle
- Vibration can be performed on site
- Passive relaxed ROM on the proximal and affected joint
- Chronic
- Hot pack or contrast hydrotherapy
- Trigger point release
- Fascia techniques
- Friction techniques

- Inflammation of the rotator cuff tendons.
- Special test
- Supraspinatus tear or weakness or tendonitis : Drop arm, Empty can/ full can
- Infraspinatus tear or weakness or tendonitis : Infraspinatus strength test
